Diet cooking recipes:
Horse Gram Soup
(Kollu rasam in Tamil & Ullavu Chaaru in Telugu)
Ingredients:
Horse Gram 100-200 gms
Tamarind paste thick 2 tea spoon
Dry red chilies 6-8
Pepper + cumin seeds powder/rasam powder
Garlic 6-8 cloves
Mustard
Asafoetida
Oil salt
Preparation:
1. In a dry pan roast horse gram and soak in water for 10 minutes.
2. Pressure cook gram with salt + water. And set it aside. Don't throw the excess of water from horse gram or even the gram too.
3. In a deep pan add oil 1-2 spoon. Once it is hot....add mustard, asafoetida and cumin seeds.
4. When mustard pops up start adding red chili flakes, garlic slightly crushed and curry leaves. One can add rasam powder and turmeric now.
5. Later add tamarind paste mixed well along with horse gram cooked water + horse gram. Drop this juice to the masala and bring it to boil.
Note: It is well known that both garlic and horse gram for controlling cholesterol. Those who are dieting can frequently add this to their menu. Horse Gram can be got in Indian stores. It can be taken along with rice
